Oncology Nursing Society Seeks Editor for the Oncology Nursing Forum - PAID POSITION

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), a professional association that represents 100,000 nurses and is the professional home to more than 35,000 members, seeks a dynamic and visionary oncology nurse to serve as editor of the Oncology Nursing Forum. 

 

The mission of the Oncology Nursing Forum, an official publication of ONS, is to amplify oncology nursing science and support the translation of research evidence to practice and policy. The intent of the Oncology Nursing Forum is to foster health equity for individuals, families, and communities affected by cancer through dissemination of research that transforms cancer care in health systems and communities. The Oncology Nursing Forum publishes six times per year and includes quantitative and qualitative research as well as integrative/systematic reviews, mixed-methods research, and research briefs. 

 

The Oncology Nursing Forum editor works with ONS staff to ensure that the journal’s content supports the Oncology Nursing Forum mission and is appropriate and appealing to readers interested in research by accepting timely and relevant manuscripts, mentoring authors, selecting and working with reviewers, and leading editorial board meetings and journal programs and activities. 

 

This position requires: 

·         10 years of experience in nursing and 5 years of experience in oncology or a comparable combination of experience 

·         A PhD in nursing 

·         A thorough understanding of the topics of interest to oncology nurses who are involved in research and evidence-based practice 

·         A thorough understanding of publishing ethics 

·         A wide network of colleagues in oncology, nursing, and publishing 

·         Experience as an editor or assistant editor of a peer-reviewed journal and a working knowledge of nursing publications and publishing 

·         Strong scholarly writing, editing, planning, communication, and meeting-facilitation skills 

·         Excellent leadership, consensus-building, and mentoring skills

·         A demonstrated ability to adhere to strict production schedules and deadlines

·         A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF annotator software, and email, as well as the ability to learn and use the online peer review program

 

Responsibilities of the role include the following: 

·         Offer responses to author queries requesting consideration of content for the Oncology Nursing Forum.

·         Provide review of all submitted content, and determine which submitted manuscripts advance to peer review. 

·         Manage the online peer review process for all manuscripts, ultimately determining which will be accepted and published. 

·         Perform all responsibilities in accordance with the publishing policies. 

·         Provide technical editing of all accepted manuscripts, adhering to established schedules. 

·         Lead the Oncology Nursing Forum Editorial Board and Review Board, including recruitment and orientation. 

·         Write editorials or coordinate authorship by guest writers.

 

The Oncology Nursing Forum editor is an independent, paid contractor of ONS. The initial term is three years, with the possibility of three one-year extensions pending mutual interest. Interested candidates should submit the following materials by Friday, June 7, 2024:

All submissions will be reviewed. The editor will be selected by September 2024, with training to begin in the fall before the candidate of choice assumes the role in its entirety on January 1, 2025.
