    Greetings Colleagues,
For those US nurses who work internationally, I am interested in knowing how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected your work thus far and how you think it might be impacted going forward.

I am also thinking about the lack of equipment and supplies, especially PPE, in low resource countries and wondering how our colleagues in those countries are preparing for the Covid-10 pandemic. Do any of you know?

    Hi Annette,

I hope you are well during this time.

Dr. McGibbon, FNP from NYU, visited China in 2015, met with their ministry of health, and made a connection with Dr. Liang

Dr. Liang has been integral in guidelines for COVID-19 prevention and treatment including use of PPEs.

Interestingly, the handbook recommends that healthcare providers take two month shifts residing at the hospital while caring for patients diagnosed with COVID.

    Attached is the handbook.

    Kind regards,

    Christa

    Christa,
Thanks for sending the Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment from our colleagues in China.  It's a great resource and impressive that they compiled the information and produced the handbook so quickly!
    Stay safe!
    Annette

The manual written by colleagues from China is amazing. I have already shared it with several others working globally.
Very much appreciate you sharing this Christa. Indeed, we now can only benefit from sharing and caring from one another.

    Stay well and safe

    Hi Annette,
This is a really interesting topic of discussion. I've been in contact with my colleagues from China and from the Middle East. For the Chinese, it was interesting how quickly they shut down their workplaces, etc. For example, the entire oncology psychology staff started working at home right away. They tried to contain this very quickly. I will definitely ask them how this has changed care for them moving forward.
As for my colleagues in the Middle East, they are still in the midst of things. I know that the Iranian group has been discussing a lot on dying patients and how COVID has impacted death and dying. There are many ethical dilemmas that are surfacing from this pandemic for sure. But thanks for the prompt of this question, and I'm going to explore more as well.
    Be safe!

    Hi, Jeannine,
Thanks for your reply.  Just yesterday I saw that the National Cancer Institute in Cairo had an number of staff test positive for COVID-19.  It will be interesting to see how things in Egypt and in the rest of the Middle East and Africa evolve.  I hope you and your family stay healthy!
    Best,
    Annette
