Chapter Requirements

Below are the requirements for 2026 - click each heading to learn more.

Host at least six member engagement opportunities

Chapters are expected to host at least six member engagement opportunities (meetings) per year.  These can be educational, networking-based, or simply social - the key is that they need to be open to all members (including retired, student, non-nurse, etc.).

This means, in general, sponsored dinners may not count towards this requirement - you are still more than welcome to host sponsored dinners, but please consult the industry sponsor to confirm if there are any attendance restrictions.  Restrictions should be communicated to the membership in initial event communications.

Submit payment for the Charter Renewal Fee by April 30

The Charter Renewal Fee helps to offset a portion of the costs of chapter expenses, including website hosting, educational content, liability insurance, and Directors and Officers Liability Insurance (which protects your personal assets, as chapter board members).

This fee ranges from $550-$950, depending on your chapter size.  Invoices are distributed in January of each year, with payment due on April 30th.

Complete four Success Metrics

Success metrics are divided into six categories: Member Recruitment, Giving Back to the Oncology Nursing Foundation, Educational Opportunities, Community Outreach, ONCC Certification, and Volunteerism.

Chapters must complete four success metrics each year - one from the Member Recruitment category, one from the Giving Back to the Oncology Nursing Foundation category, and two others from the remaining four categories (each must come from a separate category - ex: you could select one from Community Outreach and one from Volunteerism, but not two from Volunteerism).

Success metrics must be met during the calendar year.

Submit all four Quarterly President Reports

Chapter presidents are required to submit quarterly reports on chapter activities, including progress towards annual success metrics.  Those report deadlines are:

  • April 30th - First Quarterly Report due.
  • July 31st - Second Quarterly Report due.
  • October 31st - Third Quarterly Report due (along with chapter election results).
  • January 31st  - Fourth Quarterly Report due (along with success metric selections for the coming year).
Submit all four Quarterly Treasurer Reports

Chapter treasurers are required to submit four quarterly financial reports, including bank statements.  Those report deadlines are:

  • April 30th - First Quarterly Report due (along with payment of annual Chapter Renewal Fee).
  • July 31st - Second Quarterly Report due.
  • October 31st - Third Quarterly Report due.
  • January 31st  - Fourth Quarterly Report due.

Chapters must have a minimum of five elected board members - a president, treasurer, and three additional elected board members, based on the needs of the chapter (as determined by the chapter board).  For more information on board positions and chapter elections, please refer to the Chapter Election Handbook.
