Description:

This work will require the review of current literature to provide evidence-based practice recommendations for nurses related to nutrition assessment and education for cancer patients.  The project will result in the creation of content for an introductory course and help to develop an expert interview and content for interactive case studies.

The objectives for the content that this individual will work to develop are:

  1. Foundational knowledge and evidence-based practice: oncology nurses will demonstrate increased understanding of nutrition related to cancer care, including how nutrition impacts symptoms, nutrition assessment, nutrition therapy, patient education and patient referral.
  2. Patient support and shared decision-making: Oncology nurses will demonstrate improved ability to educate patients about nutrition, respond to patient questions, counsel patients, and identify barriers to adequate nutrition.
  3. Care Coordination: Oncology nurses will use clinical resources to support effective and consistent communication with patients, and between nurses and the entire healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of nutrition and cancer care.
  • Ability to translate knowledge into content appropriate for an oncology nursing audience.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Availability for an initial telephone call with staff, then email and phone communication as needed.
The learning activities will be developed in an iterative manner, so there will be regular contact and content review.  The subject matter expert will have 4 months to complete the work beginning April 9th.
