The Oncology Nursing Foundation invites qualified volunteers to apply to support the 2026 Caring for Nurses: Resources & Resilience (CAN R&R) Initiative.
The ONF CAN R&R Initiative is designed to address the urgent and growing risk of burnout among oncology nurses by providing evidence-based tools, training and resources to build resilience, sustain well-being, and improve workforce retention. This initiative aims to support oncology nurses through resources and resilience-building programs. Volunteers will play a crucial role in the planning, content development, piloting and implementation phases of this initiative.
The strategic objectives of the Oncology Nursing Foundation’s CAN R&R Initiative focus on several key areas:
1. To scale its reach nationally by moving beyond initial pilot programs to widespread adoption across ONS/ONF networks
2. To integrate clinical expertise, ensuring that all interventions are clinically sound, evidence-based, and adaptable to a variety of care settings
3. To gauge effectiveness, establish clear metrics to measure nurse wellbeing, resilience, retention, and patient care outcomes
4. To sustain its impact through philanthropy, utilizing donor investments to accelerate rollout and ensure long-term sustainability
Volunteers for this opportunity must:
1. be a subject matter expert on resilience content
2. have a deep commitment to workforce wellness,
3. have experience with developing content for others to present/use especially train the trainer models
TIME COMMITMENT:
Volunteers for this initiative will have a time commitment of 6-9 months, with a 5-8 hour commitment per month, on average. Volunteers will work together to create a comprehensive curriculum focused on resilience, stress management and burnout prevention. This curriculum will be used to train a cohort of oncology nurse leaders to disseminate resilience training among their peers.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Must be well-versed in resilience content, must have experience developing educational resilience materials and must be a subject matter expert on resilience content. Must be an oncology nurse.
