The ONS Symptom Intervention Resources provides nurses and other healthcare professionals with guidance on evidence-based management strategies. These resources can be used to inform patient care plans, prepare nursing staff, quickly review an intervention’s efficacy evidence, and identify research gaps. ONS is looking for volunteers to help with the update of the Symptom Intervention Resource on Mucositis. 

Volunteers will: 

  • In pairs, appraise about 5-7 studies (systematic reviews and individual interventions) using a standard template.
  • Evaluate evidence for mucositis and make recommendations based on ONS effectiveness levels.
  • Draft evidence-based recommendations on level of effectiveness for publication to ons.org

Required Experience:

  • 4+ years in oncology nursing
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Availability for 1-2 team meetings
  • Application of symptom management strategies for patients with cancer experiencing mucositis 
  • ONS Member

Preferred Experience:

  • Use of Evidence-Based Practice Model in clinical settings
  • Mentoring or teaching EBP and/or Research

Length of Commitment:

  • 6 months with the option to extend and continue maintenance review of topics for a term of up to 2 years. Approximate monthly commitment is 6-10 hours per month.
