The ONS Board of Directors is a diverse group of oncology nurse professionals who serve a three-year term and meet monthly to guide the Society's strategic direction so that ONS can best influence oncology nursing and the care of patients with cancer. Together, they represent decades of experience in oncology nursing clinical care, education, research, and leadership.
The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) identifies, vets, and selects individuals with the breadth and depth of ONS organizational knowledge and governance experience necessary to serve on the Board. All applicants are considered based on their skills, qualities, and experiences and must be an active ONS member for at least the past five years. In addition, the LDC considers complementary characteristics to ensure a diverse Board. Some of the needs identified for the Board's 2026–2029 term are:
- Firsthand knowledge of current clinical oncology care issues, experience influencing nursing practice, and demonstration of leadership proficiency
- Current and potential impact on the oncology landscape
- Fiduciary experience at a strategic level
- Strong understanding of the technologic landscape and its intersection with nursing (e.g., knowledge of artificial intelligence and its relationship to nursing practice, education, etc.)
If your skills and experience align with some of these needs, and your experience in oncology nursing supports ONS's mission and values, consider applying to serve as an ONS director-at-large. Complete the notification of intent (NOI) preapplication online by Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The LDC will review all NOI submissions and contact those who best meet the needs and qualifications of the upcoming Board to invite them to submit a full application.
