Leadership drives a strong organization, and ONS’s Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is critical to building the Society’s future leaders.
Leadership Development Committee members are responsible for ensuring effective succession planning for the Society through assessing interested members’ readiness for Board service using established criteria and a comprehensive vetting process. The LDC identifies candidates who best align with the Board’s needs and the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and connection (DEIC).
Beyond the annual directors-at-large selection, the LDC directs members who are interested in Board service to opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills and prepare them for potential Board service.
If you’re ready to develop the next generation of ONS leadership, applications are now open for the 2026-2029 Leadership Development Committee. LDC members serve a three-year term and must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Exhibit and maintain a well-developed network with ONS members at local, state, or national level.
- Demonstrate experience, knowledge and skill in leadership roles, concepts, and development.
- Demonstrate experience in developing, coaching, and guiding others.
- Exhibit leadership through active involvement in ONS, professional roles, and personal initiatives. Lead and contribute effectively in collaborative and team-based environments.
- Apply principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and connection in all areas of practice. Communicate and present effectively with clarity, professionalism, and engagement. Demonstrate an understanding of governance roles and elements of effective boards (Board Leadership: Nurses in Governance course is available from the ONS course list on the website)
- Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct.
- Be an ONS voting member for no fewer than five (5) years prior to committee membership.
- Individuals may not simultaneously apply to serve on more than one national committee and must be in their final year of service for an existing committee or chapter Board prior to submitting an application for new committee service.
