The Oncology Nursing Foundation is recruiting volunteers to participate as faculty mentors for the 2026 Oncology Nurse Scientist Research Intensive.
In order to be eligible to volunteer for this initiative, you must:
- be a senior nurse scientist;
- be able to attend the Intensive in-person at the 52nd ONS Congress (April 14, 2026 in Washington, DC);
- review 1 – 2 early-career investigator grant proposals and participate in a mock study review, and
- collaborate with early-career investigators to create modification plan for their proposal.
The purpose of the Oncology Nurse Scientist Research Intensive is to expand the scientific foundation for oncology nursing practice and improvement of the healthcare of people impacted by cancer through a research mentoring and networking opportunity for PhD nurse scientists. Competitively-selected participants and senior research scientist faculty mentors will collaborate in a mock study section and working sessions to refine grant proposals. The Intensive is designed to foster the needs and interests of PhD-prepared early-career oncology nurse scientists in a supportive environment.
Applications for the 2026 Oncology Nurse Scientist Research Intensive open October 1, 2026. Letters of Intent (LOI) proposals are due by November 5, 2026.
Volunteers are asked to apply by October 15th. Eligible volunteers for this review will be notified by November 1st.
TIME COMMITMENT:
Each faculty mentor will be assigned 1-2 applications to review for a preliminary impact score, which can take 3-5 hours each to complete. Once completed, the preliminary impact scores will be discussed in-person at the Intensive during the mock study review section. The overall time commitment anticipated is approximately 15 hours.
- LOI Review Dates: November 9 - 23, 2026 (this review is conducted by the Chair and the ONS Scholar in Residence only)
- Full Proposal Review Dates: February 3 - 24, 2027 (all faculty mentors participate in this review)
