  • Call for Board Nominations & Volunteers

    The Metro Denver Oncology Nursing Society (MDONS) is seeking members who are interested in helping support and shape our local oncology nursing community.

    There are two ways to get involved:

    • Run for an elected Board position — nominate yourself or another MDONS member for President-Elect, Treasurer, or Secretary.

    • Volunteer with the Board — contribute in a non-elected support role based on your interests, skills, and availability.

    No previous Board experience is required. If you are interested in becoming more involved with MDONS, we encourage you to consider one of the opportunities below.

    Deadline for nominations: September 15, 2026

     

    Incentives for holding MDONS positions include:

    • Stipend for ONS membership dues

    • Local recognition through the chapter newsletter

    • Letter of appreciation from the chapter to the individual’s employer or family.

    • Educational opportunities

    • Leadership support and mentoring from our esteemed Board Members

    Elected Board Positions

    President-Elect

    Term: 1 year as President-Elect, followed by transition to President for 2 years*
    Estimated Time Commitment: Approximately 5 hours per month, including Board meetings

    The President-Elect works closely with the President to learn the responsibilities of chapter leadership, support current initiatives, and help ensure continuity as leadership transitions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work closely with and support the President.

    • Learn the responsibilities and operations of the President role.

    • Participate in Board meetings, planning, and chapter decision-making.

    • Assume the President's responsibilities when the President is unavailable.

    • Support chapter programs, member engagement, recruitment, and other initiatives.

    • Prepare to transition into the President role.

    Treasurer

    Term: 2 years*
    Estimated Time Commitment: Approximately 6 hours per month, including Board meetings

    The Treasurer oversees the chapter's finances and provides the Board with the information needed to make responsible financial decisions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain accurate chapter financial records.

    • Assist with developing and monitoring the chapter budget.

    • Track income, expenses, and other financial activity.

    • Oversee payment of approved chapter expenses.

    • Provide regular financial reports to the Board.

    • Help the Board understand the chapter's financial position and plan for future activities.

    • Ensure chapter finances are managed in accordance with ONS policies and applicable requirements.


    Secretary

    Term: 2 years*
    Estimated Time Commitment: Approximately 4 hours per month, including Board meetings

    The Secretary helps keep the Board organized by maintaining important chapter records, documenting decisions, and supporting communication and follow-through.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Attend Board meetings and maintain meeting minutes.

    • Help prepare and maintain meeting agendas and records.

    • Document attendance, decisions, and action items.

    • Assist with distributing chapter information and announcements.

    • Support follow-up on Board activities and initiatives.

    • Assist with administrative and logistical needs for chapter programs and events.


    Interested in Helping Without Running for Office?

    You don't need to hold an elected position to make a meaningful contribution to MDONS.

    We also welcome members interested in serving in non-elected Board volunteer/support roles. This can be a great way to get involved, contribute in an area you enjoy, and learn more about MDONS leadership without committing to an elected officer position.

    • Events and networking

    • Member engagement and recruitment

    • Communications and social media

    • Community outreach

    • Sponsorships and partnerships

    • Awards and recognition

    • Special projects and other chapter initiatives
