
Sara Stewart
President
Sara Stewart has been an oncology nurse since the beginning of her nursing career in 2011. She is currently working as the Thoracic Oncology Nurse Navigator for Northside Health System in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to coming to Northside, she spent 5 years as one of the Breast Care Nurse Navigators for Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA, was the clinical coordinator and triage nurse for Wellstar Gynecologic Oncology and worked as a staff nurse on the medical oncology unit at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, GA. Sara is OCN certified and has participated as a poster presenter at the ONS national conference. She is the recipient of the Crump Oncology Nursing Excellence Award, has been nominated for the Daisy Award and received Wellstar’s Nursing Excellence Award. She was one of twelve nurses from around the country chosen to participate in the first cohort of Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s Survivorship Series training in 2018.

Doris Horton

Doris’ nursing career started 1976 in Jackson, MS as a Pediatric nurse; she relocated to Houston,TX and this was her introduction to Oncology. She was employed and received her Basic Oncology Training at MD Anderson Cancer Center. She worked with the Adolescent Population for seven years before traveling to Berlin, Germany with her husband. She worked with the Veterans population at Berlin MEDDAC for three years before returning to the states. Her Oncology career resumed in Atlanta, GA at Grady Hospital on 10A Oncology unit. She worked in various roles (Charge Nurse, Interim Head Nurse and Case Manager). She obtained her certification as a Certified Case Manager while employed at Grady Hospital. She transitioned from inpatient oncology to outpatient oncology clinic setting in 2001. She worked at VA Medical Center in Decatur, GA in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic as a Charge Nurse / Infusion Nurse. She received the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses 2013 while employed at VA Medical Center and she received her Master of Science in Nursing Education from WGU in 2015. She maintained her Oncology Nursing Certification until 2020 and retired from VA Medical Center in 2018.

Membership Chair - 1 year (2019)
Treasurer - 2 years (2020-2022)
Secretary - 1 year (2023) and presently serving one year as Treasurer until December 2024.

Tiffany Brosius, BSN, RN, OCN
Treasurer
Tiffany serves as Clinical Nurse Educator with TerSera Therapeutics. She iis a Clinical Nurse Educator supporting health care professionals and patients. She spent several years as a GI Nurse Navigator at Emory Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta. She engaged in patient and family education pertaining to diagnoses and treatments and delivered continual psychosocial support and direct patient care. Tiffany is active in the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), Infusion Nursing Society (INS) and AONN+ (Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators). She has dedicated her nursing career to the oncology field and is committed to patient education and advocacy.

Kathleen Giarla, MSN, AGNP
Virtual Community Coordinator
Kathleen began her nursing career in 2011 in Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in neurology and neurosurgery. She earned her MSN, and became certified as an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner in 2016. She then began working as a hospital-based palliative care nurse practitioner, where she gained a broad knowledge base of oncology patient care, education, and advocacy. She continued her palliative care work when relocating to Atlanta in 2019, focusing on ICU-based patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic. She then spent time as an outpatient neuro-oncology nurse practitioner, treating patients with brain tumors. She currently serves as a Thoracic Clinical Educator for Novocure.

Diane Ayers OCN, BSN, RN

I have been a Nurse for more than 20 years. I am currently employed by Emory Winship at MidTown, in the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Department as the senior Nurse Manager. I have been at Emory for 14 years. I have been a member of the MAONS for the last 6 years and have served as Treasurer for 2 years, and President for 1 year. I will be serving a second term as President for 2023. I love to travel and walk.
