March 10, 2026- California Oncology Nurses in action: Jamie Mercado, RN and Kerri Stuart, RN, were invited and gathered in the California Assembly Chamber with Assemblyman Joe Patterson to introduce House Resolution 89. Assemblyman Patterson delivered a thoughtful and compelling message on the urgent need for increased awareness, discussion, and screening. Kerri and Jamie were given the opportunity to speak and share nursing perspectives on the care of colorectal cancer patients and the importance of patient navigation. Also in attendance and pictured:  Asm. Rebecca Baur Kahan, Asm. Rhodesia Ransom, Asm. Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Asm. Mia Bonta, constituents and parents Belina Melo-Chew and Ben Chew (lost daughter Serena Melo-Chew to colorectal cancer at age 26), and community activist Dr. Mary Beth Kropp, who lost her husband Big Mike Kropp to colorectal cancer in 2021. A community making a difference.

    Please join us for an educational dinner meeting on Tuesday, June 9th featuring GSCONS member and past president, Kristie Howlett, MS, CNS, NP-C, AOCNP. Topic: Cancer Survivorship Kristie is the founder of Howlett Integrative Cancer Care, which offers personalized integrative care focused on survivorship, wellness, and prevention. She works with patients during treatment and helps survivors regain their health and strength after treatment is completed. Meeting Details: Date: Monday, June 9th Check-in: 6:00 PM Speaker Presentation: 6:30 PM Location: Kaiser Roseville Conference Room 2 3rd Floor, Building D A catered dinner will be provided.
