Hello,  I am an RN who works in a OP oncology practice. I am wondering if anyone has data or know the answer?  Does the ONS/ USP 800 recommend a specif millimeter thickness on gloves used to administer chemotherapy or HD? Back in the day I recall a thickness of 9 mil was acceptable.  The data that I have scoured cites gloves that are ASTM-D6798-05 tested, USP 797 and 800 compliant.  Any info is appreciated.

Although the thickness of gloves will still factor into their efficacy, there is no longer a specific requirement due to newer glove materials. Many nurses have found nitrile or neoprene gloves to be effective, thinner and to increase dexterity. The most important thing to check is whether they have met the testing requirements as you have noted. This information can be obtained from the manufacturer and is usually printed on the box.
