Our speaker: Charlotte Hayes, M.S., a third-year PhD student in the neuroscience track at Mayo Clinic. She works in the lab of Dr. David Daniels, where they study a malignant pediatric brain tumor called diffuse midline glioma (DMG). She is a cancer researcher by choice, but a cancer patient by chance. A few months after graduating from her master's program, she learned her cancer had returned. The past four years of her fight have resulted in an intimate understanding of what it means to be a young person with cancer. Her identity as an "incurably stubborn patient" has driven her to share how we can best care for these patients as they face life-limiting illnesses.
Outside of academia, she is a passionate road cyclist, writer, and sourdough enthusiast. She runs a nonprofit foundation called KIDS MATER TOO, which is dedicated to funding the most promising research projects for pediatric DMG. https://www.kidsmatertoo.org/
