Be the Voice of Oncology Nurses
The Seventh Annual ONS Advocacy Capitol Hill Days will be back in person in 2022 in Washington, DC! This two-day education and advocacy conference has become a must-attend event for any oncology nurse interested in health policy.
We’re asking each chapter to nominate one activist to join hundreds of ONS members who have already become leaders in the policy arena. We hope that your chapter will send an oncology nurse to DC to help ONS make a difference in healthcare policy.

Event Details
September 18–20, 2022, a cohort of 100 ONS members will network and learn about a variety of advocacy issues. They will carry the message of the role of the oncology nurse in healthcare to elected officials on Capitol Hill.
Nurses will be briefed by congressional experts, government officials, healthcare leaders, and the ONS advocacy and health policy team on the current political environment and relevant topics. These include, but are not limited to palliative care, oral drug parity, and care planning. In addition, pundits from “inside the beltway” will provide insight on issues such as the impact of COVID on immunocompromised patients, drug costs, tobacco cessation, workforce safety, and federal funding for research.
This is an incredible opportunity for ONS members—and for your chapter—to experience how the legislative and regulatory process affects nurses. Equally important is the training that your member will bring back to your chapter to help ONS reinforce its health policy agenda in your local congressional district.
Apply Now
To nominate an oncology nurse, please submit the following through this easy-to-use form:
- A letter of interest stating the member’s advocacy experience
- The member’s curricula vitae and/or resume
- A letter of support from your chapter
As in previous years, we’re asking your chapter to cover the costs of transportation and ONS National will pay for the member’s hotel and food expenses while in Washington, DC. We are looking for returning members as well as new advocacy champions who want to help ONS educate decision-makers on the role of the nurse in health care.
ONS is very excited about the opportunity to lead a new delegation of oncology nurses in meeting with their federal representatives. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions and thank you for your support of this event.
Sincerely,
Alec Stone, MA, MPA
