My name is Suwannee, Sirilerttrakul, APN (oncology nursing) from Thailand. Do anyone has an experience to inject Trastuzumab SC? If we would like to prepare at OPD oncology clinic, The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH) recomments to use TRANSFERED DEVICE. In my country,  medical equipment companies have a transfered  device for IV administration only, They do not have a specila transfered device for SC injection. My question is, anyone who have an experience to use transferedd device for trastuzumab sucutaneous injection?  Please share yor experience, information., and  picture of transfered devices.
    Regards/S. Sirilerttrakul

    Hi
Trastuzumab (IV or SC) is not on the 2016 NIOSH hazardous drug list. It might be on the 2019 list but that's not due out until end of the year.

That being said, CSTDs are used for SC injections of chemotherapy. But much will depend on what products are available in your country. While all syringes become "open" once a needle is attached, using a CSTD up until that point protects the pharmacist (or whoever is mixing the drug) during compounding, and staff during transport.

Trastuzumab does not require a transfer device.  We administer this SC without a device.  We only use the device for IV medications.
