Hands-on Chemo Administration

    Hello everyone. How does your facility teach then test hands-on chemo administration for newly certified chemo nurses? We have a SIM lab that we can use but getting the necessary OOS time for the nurses has been an issue. I look forward to your replies. Thank you. Mary

    Good morning,
    At my site after the inpatient nurse has obtained a chemo provider card time is scheduled for a day in the infusion center.  There is a much higher volume of chemo in the infusion center. We require 3 supervised drug administrations to be " chemo competent"

    Hello. Our new nurses also spend time in the outpatient infusion center but they deliver chemo differently than we do in-house so that just adds to their confusion. I am the Nurse Educator on my unit and I am researching a
    better way for inpatient. Thank you for responding.

    ​Would also like to know how/where new(or even old) nurses can learn about handling chemo and infusions.  Especially me, who works primarily alone, and could develop habits that are not as they should be.
