Just wondering what are your practices when checking chemotherapy. Is it required by the facility that both nurses are chemo certified?

Our policy states that the nurses checking the chemo must be " chemo competent" which means they have gone through either our course or the ONS chemo course and are current with our competency assessments.

How does your facility handle Oral Chemotherpay? Is it a 2 RN bedside check?
For patients receiving oral chemo for a diagnosis that is not cancer who is allowed to administer the PO drug?

    Thank you,

Yes.  We require that both of our nurses have their ONS Certificate.

Our policy states the second check must be by a chemo certified nurse, pharmacist, or Oncologist/Advanced Provider.

Is this referring to bedside chemotherapy, 2nd person check? Or preliminary verification with labs, etc...?

This was specifically relating to outpatient treatments. We are strictly an outpatient infusion facility. A nurse checks chemo with a pharmacist then 2 nurses double check chairside before hanging.
