We use a fair amount of Decadron -10 or 20 mg - as premed. Has anyone used Zofran 16mg instead with good success?

God morning Jennifer.  I have used Zofran in all my practices since 1992.  I have had very good results with 16 mg dose with dacadron 10 mg.  Now, of course, there are other products on the market with similar success.  Insurance companies are dictating what can be used more and more frequesntly.

We usually give Decadron 10 mg and Zofran 8 mg unless highly emetigenic, then use Decadron 10 mg, Aloxi 0.25 mg, and Emend 150 mg. For use at home, we order Compazine or Zofran po. If that doesn’t work, then Ativan, and if that doesn’t help, then sometimes Zyprexa. For some of the rougher regimens, we tell our patients to take their oral meds for the first 3 days after chemo, then prn.
