Female pregnancy testing

    Hi everyone,

I'm an RN working in Radiation Oncology.

We want to put a policy in place for female pregnancy testing.

What parameters do you use at your facility for testing?

    Age?

    Hysterectomy?

    Absence in menses?

Do all women get tested or are some exempt?

In radiation, we do a urine HCG at CT loc for all women 50 and under

In Infusion we test at least monthly for all women 50 under.

The exception is those women who have known hysterectomy or documented menopause

    Hello, Raechelle:

Our practice is re-examining the very same issue. I have attached a related article from ONS's CJON that I found helpful.

    Kind regards,

Hi.  We test up to age 60 unless they have had a hysterectomy or are menopausal.  Patients also have the right to decline pregnancy testing in which case they sign the declination form.

Hi, I work in Radiation Oncology as well.
We do urine hcg on day of sim. We test up to age 60 unless they have had a hysterectomy or have reached menopause. They also sign a form consenting to/ declining the test.
