Bone Marrow Biopsies

Regarding bone marrow biopsies within your organization:

Who performs the procedure and is it done at the bedside or in IR? Are you using conscious sedation or just local anesthetics? If only using local anesthetics, are you offering sedation to your patients? Approximately how many bone marrow biopsies are done in a week at your organization? Is it the same process in the hospital and in the clinic?

    Any feedback is appreciated!

If the bone marrow biopsy is done in clinic it is done by the nurse practitioners.   We only use local.  If the patient is apprehensive or is a poor candidate to position on the procedure table we will order it to be done in IR which the physician does under conscious sedation per hospital policy.  I would say the vast majority of our patients prefer to have it done outpatient in our clinic.

Our number vary as we are a community practice.
