Oncology Unit Alert

Instead of a hospital-wide rapid response, a team of nurses in our hospital is working on modalities for introducing an Oncology-specific rapid response (Oncology Alert). Over the past few months, we have been collecting data on the number and reasons for rapid responses called to Oncology units. Rapid responses in the hospital are triggered by elevated MEWS, but we have found out that on oncology units MEWS are elevated in most cases during neutropenic fevers.
The objective for an "Onc Alert" would be to minimize hospital-wide resources being diverted to Oncology units when resources within these units could effectively resolve a critical situation.
We are therefore looking for any recommendations, policies or modalities from those who might have a similar system in place regarding specifically:
    • Who should respond to an "Onc Alert"
    • What qualifies for an "Onc Alert" that does not require hospital-wide Critical Care responses
    • When to escalate.
Any information would be highly appreciated.

What an incredible project!  There will be so many avenues your project could take so please update the list serve when your team implements different things.
