Verification RN: I was looking for some insight on this role in the ambulatory setting..
    1. Does the RN have specific qualifications?
    2. What are the roles and responsibilities of this RN?
    3. Does this RN work alongside the pharmacy team?
    4. Do you have this RN working with the current orders for the day and then prep for the upcoming day?
    5. Is this a one man job or two? We would be seeing up to 100-120 patients per day
    6. Do you rotate this job role?
    7. Is there any references that you used to bring this role to your infusion center?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello,
If I have understood your question I think I can help. I work in an ambulatory setting as an educator. I am new to this position but might have some insight for you.
Verification RN: I was looking for some insight on this role in the ambulatory setting..
    1. Does the RN have specific qualifications? The RN in this needs no other qualifications than there licensure, but our institute does state they need their BSN in a certain amount of time.
    2. What are the roles and responsibilities of this RN? There are two roles in our offices, Primary Nurse and Infusion Nurse. The Primary Nurse works closely with the physician, they will help with access of ports, assessments, refills, lab interpretations, answering patient question on phone calls, communication between physicians and patients. Infusion nurses are responsible for treating the patients, reading and interpretation of labs, following treatment plans, infusions of  all medications, assessment of patients during all treatments, building relationships. Of course both of these nurses will do patient education on all treatments. These listed duties are only a portion of what the nurses are responsible for in their day.
    3. Does this RN work alongside the pharmacy team? Our nurses work with the pharmacy but do not mix medications.
    4. Do you have this RN working with the current orders for the day and then prep for the upcoming day? Yes
    5. Is this a one man job or two? We would be seeing up to 100-120 patients per day. I would venture to say you will need at least two
    6. Do you rotate this job role? Usually we have the same nurse with the same physicians so they work well together and build a team. Each of our doctors work a little differently so we pair them up with the same nurse each day.
    7. Is there any references that you used to bring this role to your infusion center? I am not sure of the references we have used.
    Good Luck Amanda!

I agree with Jamie with the exception that we do not require a nurse to have her BSN.  We do require the nurse to be chemotherapy certified.  We also encourage our nurses to get their ONC
