Discontinue Chemotherapy Orders

    Good Afternoon, Everyone.
I wanted to reach out to you all to see what is your current practice regarding NPs discontinuing chemotherapy orders/regimens.   We are a HOD for a large facility.  We provide the infusions for the physicians for the health system.  We do NOT have physicians in our department.  The physician refers the patients to us for treatment (based on the written orders).  Our policy is very strict regarding who can write for chemotherapy.  We only allow the Oncologist to write the orders.  We do not accept orders from non-oncologist for an oncology diagnosis/regimen.  The NP or PA can write the orders, but the oncologist must co-sign the order.

The question is now being asked if we will allow the NP or PAs to write orders to discontinue the chemotherapy or regimen.  We are wanting to know how other practices handle this situation.

Any feedback you can provide that will help us continue with best practice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!
