The RN navigators have always reported to nursing but there is consideration to have them to report to a Social Worker in the new cancer center we are building.  I would appreciate hearing from other nurse navigators who you report to and pros and cons.

If you are a nurse you should report to a nurse. I think this is not just an operational or administrative position, there are so many clinical aspects and judgments involved in navigation, it is nursing. Now if it is a lay position it is another story. I, however am partial and convinced in the value of nurses doing the navigating. It is much more complete. I also believe there is a greater role for APNs as navigators. More to follow.
